So this is a recent fashion model that I did, and this is more of a urban/ nature feel to it, it was a quick shoot, and i havent shot models in a while, and with her permission to post it on my profile let me know what you all think!
i am not a wardrobe and specialist, just would love some critique on the camera work and the model pose
thanks!
BTW if you love photography, anime, and especially YAOI!!!! check out my gallery!
I directed fashion shoots for many years, and from that perspective I will say I like the backlighting and using your focal length and aperture to separate model from background; but I would ask for less green in the background - it does nothing for the clothes - if this is a fashion shot you want nothing to distract the eye from the clothes. Make sure her underwear isn't showing to the left - her hair directs the eye right to that strap. Were I still in fashion director position, I would hire you for a shoot based on this, but I would caution you as stated above. I might even select your locations myself to be sure we would get what we needed and send a good stylist with you to help with details like the strap showing, etc.
For starters .. i really like the photo. The model you chose was a good choice. I like the wardrobe a lot. I also like how the model is more in focus than the background. The way she is leaning forward really strengthens the photo. I also like how the photo is taken on a slant. The only thing i would change is the models eyes... not the color of her eyes lol but how they look. I don't know if you know what i mean by this or not but you know how you can smile with your eyes... well i would have the model smile with her eyes more.... I get that the look on her face is neutral but her eyes say other wise.. in a way she looks upset or mad ... but overall i love the photo !!! great job!!!!! : D
wow, I must be the only one that doesn't like her wardrobe I like all the pieces, just not when worn together but a critique of her fashion sense aside I actually think that the brightness of the sun in the background works well. the brightest portion is right behind her head, so it helps draw your focus to her face. and the pose helps your eye travel down the rest of the photo. I also like the illusion given. at first, you think that, for the most part, she's standing straight and leaning forward. but when you get towards the bottom and see the road, you realize otherwise, that the photo was taken on an angle. as for her expression... when you look at her as a whole, you see that she's a very lovely young woman. but when you really look at her expression, it appears she has some sort of inner conflict and perhaps a touch of sadness. that's the impression I get from this, anyway (whether it's right or wrong). I think you captured not just her image, but the real person she is, if that makes sense
lol its okay i have no personal opinion about her colothing, i was more concerned about the camera work and the model positions and expression, you are the first actually to think of her expression in that manner, i had that vision of her facial expression too! what do you say great minds think a like huh! but thank you for the lengthly critique, really appreciate your feedback! and yes i used the camera to give it a more dynamic look, camera work can make a simple pose seem very creative
also sorry for the late response been on a buisness trip lately
never apologize for late responses I have a husband and two pre-teen kids so I know what it's like to be crazy busy! I usually don't have any opinion about clothing, either. I'm not much into fashion, but I was rather amused everyone loved her ensemble and I didn't. I'm surprised no one else thought of her expression that way! so maybe great minds do think alike! and I agree, I've been taking pictures at different angles myself and it really does make something simple look very creative!
ahhh so you have a lot of work to do around the house, i live with 3 little babies about 2 and 3 year olds and i personally didnt have a fashion opinion, she wanted pictures of her in her outfit, so i helped her out, and ask for permission to post the photo i use to take pictures either 180 or 90 degrees, thought it was the only way, but now i never do that and always have very very weird angles to bring the best of a picture
oh, I remember those ages... that's when they're the most work! I remember being tired a lot when mine were so young. but now one will be 13 in a few weeks and the other will be 10 this summer, so they're not as much of a handful, just full of attitude. I don't know which is the lesser of two evils! I agree, sometimes weird angles create the very best photos! especially in this case, it really brings the photo to life!
